Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) was selected as an excellent district in the 2019 Outdoor Advertisement Standard Improvement Assessment conducted throughout the twenty-five autonomous districts in Seoul.
This assessment was a comprehensive evaluation of efforts made in improving and repairing outdoor advertisements from September 2018 to August 2019. The excellent districts are awarded an outstanding support incentive for the 2020 signboard improvement project budget and the honor of commendation as an excellent organization and for meritorious civil service.
The assessment was comprised of ten items in the three categories of ▲outdoor advertisement maintenance and regulation, ▲capacity for promotion of the signboard improvement project, and ▲administrative matters. The excellent district was selected through a written and on-site assessment by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Gangdong-gu’s awards and achievements nearly doubled in the number of maintenance and administrative measures in the area of fixed advertisements compared to the previous year. The district also dealt with over 80,000 illegal advertisements through the formation of Gangdong-gu’s specialized project, the illegal advertisement management and promotion conference, in addition to the obligatory installment of designated bulletin boards for public banners in the area of floating advertisements.
Continuing from the previous year, signs with refined designs suitable to each business category in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong-gu promoted the beautiful street creation project, and the district received high evaluation for its continuous lead in the advancement of city aesthetics.
Mayor Lee Jung-hun of Gangdong-gu commented, “This year’s award was made possible through the promotion of the illegal outdoor advertisement maintenance project with participation and cooperation with residents. This is more meaningful as it helped improve the living environment of the district. We will continue to create a dignified street environment.”
