Cool City Gangdong Network Receives Grand Prize of 2019 Seoul Metropolitan Government Environment Award$-Recognized for seven-year practice of a green lifestyle with citizens through campaigns and education

‘Cool City Gangdong Network’ will receive the grand prize of the 2019 Seoul Metropolitan Government Environment Award.

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) received the grand prize of the 23rd Seoul Metropolitan Government Environment Award on the 13th (Wed.) for its ‘Cool City Gangdong Network,’ which was the practice of a low-carbon green lifestyle.

The ‘Seoul Metropolitan Government Environment Award’ is an award that discovers citizens, groups, or institutions that make Seoul’s environment greener and more pleasant and encourages them in addition to expanding the practice of environmental preservation. The award is divided into the five categories of green technology, energy preservation, environment preservation, landscaping ecosystem, and green village, and a total of twenty-one teams with one grand prize team, five excellent teams by category, and fifteen outstanding teams were selected as this year’s winners.

 

The Cool City Gangdong Network was especially recognized for its contribution to reducing greenhouse gases, saving energy, and promoting the practice of a green lifestyle for the realization of a sustainable, low-carbon green lifestyle.

 

The Cool City Gangdong Network that was started in 2012 currently includes around ninety affiliated citizen groups, public institutions, educational institutions, and businesses. The groups lead participation by locals by remaining active in areas such as campaigns, consulting, and education.

 

The network incorporates various projects like ‘Green Leader’ that provides instructions for a green lifestyle, ‘Energy Diagnosis Consulting’ that visits households, the fine particulate matter reduction campaign, the seasonal cool and thermal clothing campaign, ‘environmental education’ for childcare centers, elementary, middle, and high schools, and residents, and the ‘Eco-friendly Energy Tour.’ ‘Energy Maru’ that newly opened at Gangil-dong Neunggol Neighborhood Park on the 6th will be utilized for the active development of new and renewable energy experiential education.

 

Mayor Lee Jung-hun of Gangdong-gu commented, “We are grateful that the Cool City Gangdong Network is playing a significant role in leading efforts by public and private communities to put an end to global warming and climate change. We hope that the communities will continue to take the lead in creating the sustainable climate and environment city of Gangdong-gu.”
