No More Worries about Autumn Mosquitoes thanks to thorough Fumigation!$-Gangdong-gu to enforce concentrated fumigation of mosquito habitats with the help of the health center fumigation unit and the civilian fumigation unit-- Residents are encouraged to follow instructions for individual activities while outdoors to prevent mosquito-borne diseases

Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, enforced the concentrated fumigation of mosquito habitats to eliminate late autumn mosquitoes that continue to thrive in chilly weather. This is to prevent the danger of mosquito-borne diseases, including Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever, dengue fever, Zika fever and more.

Larvae fumigation, which removes mosquito larvae, and fog fumigation, that can kill mosquito imagoes, were enforced mostly by the health center fumigation unit and the civilian fumigation unit. Vehicle spray fumigation was conducted in fumigation vulnerable areas such as public restrooms and senior citizen centers, while focused fumigation and disinfection were enforced around festival and event venues.

In addition to the fumigation that was held out throughout Gangdong-gu, it is encouraged that residents follow instructions during their individual activities in order to prevention mosquito-borne diseases: ▲ wear long bottoms and long-sleeved tops of bright colors during nighttime or outdoor activities to minimize skin exposure, ▲ use mosquito repellent on exposed skin, clothes, tops of shoes and socks (must use an appropriate amount of the products that have approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety), ▲ restrain from the use of products with strong fragrances during outdoor activities, and ▲ use mosquito nets at home.

An official of the Gangdong-gu health center commented, “The number of mosquitoes has decreased recently, but residents must take caution as to not get bitten by mosquitoes that are still active,” before adding, “We will do our best to continually inspect places that might become mosquito habitats.”
