Play with Wood Instead of Plastic!$-Gangdong-gu builds five neighborhood forest centers for children, including in Saemteo Neighborhood Park-Supports the growth of children with forest playgrounds in which children can play amid nature

17-10-2018

Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, revealed plans to build five neighborhood forest centers for children, including in Saemteo Neighborhood Park, where children can play to their hearts’ content within nature.

The “neighborhood forest centers for children” are spaces in which children who live in the city and who normally do not have easy access to nature can play using natural objects as toys.

There will be two new neighborhood forest centers for children in Saemteo Neighborhood Park, and three others in Beolmal, Bangjuk and Neunggol Neighborhood Parks. These areas were selected for their gentle slopes and convenient accessibility thanks to their close proximity to roads and residential streets.

With a surface area of approximately 300 square meters, the centers bring the natural environment to life unlike other amusement parks that are filled with man-made facilities. Insects, birds, trees, leaves, mud and other organisms will stimulate the children’s curiosity, and activities that utilize woods, such as climbing, jumping, log bridge crossing, and wooden puzzles, will offer children the opportunity to play freely in a forest while enjoying and connecting with nature.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun stated, “We hope that Neighborhood Forest Centers for Children, forest playgrounds for children from the city who normally do not have easy access to nature, will help children attain emotional stability and grow healthy.”

The Gangdong-gu neighborhood forest centers for children are open to anyone. For further information, please contact Gangdong-gu Office’s Green Urban Division (☎02-3425-6453).
