Gangdong-gu (mayor Lee Jung-hun) will expand its baby shower service, which the district has independently supported since 2017, to congratulate the births of babies and lessen the burden of childcare on families.

Beginning in July, all expecting households in the district can receive diapers, hand soap sets, and congratulatory items from the city of Seoul as baby gifts.

The baby shower gifts offered by the city include a choice of nursing, health, or outing set. The infant thermometer that was provided by the district has been substituted with diapers, with the inclusion of congratulatory gifts from the city of Seoul.

Households with newborn babies born after July 1, 2018 can apply for the diaper and hand soap set within 1 year after the date of birth registration, and can apply for the Seoul congratulatory item set within 3 months from the date of birth at the community service center as stated on resident registration.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun said, “The low birth rate is an issue that the local community must address together by sharing the burden of childcare,” and “We will not hold back on support in creating a birth, nursing, and family-friendly Gangdong-gu that can be felt by residents.”

For inquiries, residents can contact the Gangdong-gu Office Women Family Division (☎02-3425-5782).

In addition, Gangdong-gu is in the process of continuous discovery and promotion for various projects to create a positive social atmosphere towards childbirth and for practical alleviation of childcare burdens. In order to celebrate the meaningful birth of a child, baby shower funds will be provided from the first child along with the booklet ‘MOM Pyeonhan Sesang’, which includes 90 policies about pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, and the different stages of a child’s life. The ‘Multi-Child Family-Enterprise (Group) WIN-WIN Project’, a project that has formed relationships between multi-child families with more than four children and district enterprises (groups) to provide support for childcare expenses, has been in progress since 2010, with operation of a joint childcare zone, installation of baby carriage racks, expansion of national nursery schools, and hourly childcare services.
