By unanimous decision, Gangdong-gu was reappointed as the 6th chair city at the <10th Regular General Assembly of the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership (the “Partnership”)> held in Ulsan. About 250 people from 86 member cities nationwide and 10 research institutes attended the event.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary as a healthy city of Korea, the Partnership has put forth great efforts to share outstanding health policies and cases among member cities and form a systematic network to establish a sustainable environment for a healthy city.

As the chair city, Gangdong-gu gathered the feedback of the heads of member cities last year pursuant to declaring the “establishment of an active life environment” as a joint policy and also made great efforts, both internally and externally, to promote itself as a healthy city.

Through a revision of the articles, the Partnership has elevated participants of general assemblies to the level of local government heads and managers and, for the first time in the history of the Partnership, has created the “Korea Healthy Cities Award”. At this assembly, healthy city awards were given to 15 cities that have actively pursued the joint policies.

Earlier this year, it hosted a conference of experts in noninfectious disease administration, the first of its kind in Korea, in which the WPRO (Western Pacific Regional Office) of the WHO, member cities and academic circles participate in order to seek the means of chronic disease administration under emergency situations.

Meanwhile, as a result of leading health-friendly policies by applying the concept of “health” in all areas, Gangdong-gu received 4 awards this past August at the “The 7th Global Conference of AFHC” including the WHO Healthy Cities Award.
