Subject Living Lab in Gangdong

Gangdong-gu District (Mayor Lee Jung hun) recently started a full-fledged "Living Lab" program, starting with a workshop for the Smart Gangdong Residents' Participation Group.

"Living Lab" means a "living laboratory," which refers to a policy in which residents directly participate in and solve urban problems occurring in their lives using information and communication technology (ICT). Here, information and communication technology is the basis of a creative economy. In particular, big data, mobile, and wearable have become new topics recently. Furthermore, the Internet of Things enables not only human-to-human connections, but also human-to-object connections.

According to the district on the 7th, the Living Lab was divided into two rounds, with the first round of education on Living Lab theories and cases, and the second round of public discussions to solve local problems.

The Smart Gangdong Residents' Participation Group, which participated in the public debate, shared various problems in life related to garbage, environment, and safety and discussed solutions that incorporate information and communication technology. Among the opinions presented on the day, the highly feasible solution is to apply for the residents' participation budget and establish it as a specialized policy for smart cities in Gangdong-gu.

Mayor Lee Jung hun, said, "We cannot overemphasize the participation of residents to create a smart city that we have dreamed of. As a venue for experiments to solve problems, the Living Lab program will serve as a priming water to speed up smart cities, he said. "We will continue to promote fresh and innovative Living Lab to expand smart services and improve the quality of life of residents."
