Subject Gangdong-gu Started Construction of ‘Gangdong Eoullim Welfare Center for the Disabled’

Gangdong-gu (mayor Lee Jung hun) announced on the 30th of March that 'Gangdong Eoullim Welfare Center for the Disabled' has begun construction.
According to the district, "In January, the district held the conference for design outsourcing of 'Gangdong Eoullim Welfare Center for the Disabled’ to complete the design, and the construction took the first step on the 29th."

'Gangdong Eoullim Welfare Center for the Disabled’ is scheduled to be completed in January 2024, as a municipal general welfare center for the disabled around Cheonho-dong and Amsa-dong, where a large number of people with disabilities are distributed.

The 'Gangdong Eoullim Welfare Center for the Disabled' (741 Olympic-ro) will be built on a total floor area of 4,400m2 with nine floors including three basement floors.
Just like the meaning of ‘Eoullim; join together’, various rooms which are available for both disabled and non-disabled will be opened. For example, not only ‘Aquatic Rehabilitation Exercise Room’, ‘Multi-purpose Rehabilitation Treatment Room’, ‘Barrier-free Indoor Playground’, but also ‘Physical Training Room’, ‘Temporary Care Room’, ‘Book Cafes’, and ‘Auditoriums’ are planned.

In particular, it is a great advantage that various opinions of local residents including the disabled were sufficiently reflected in the design from the beginning of the project.
Joo Hee beom, head of the Welfare Division for the Disabled in Gangdong-gu, said, “From the beginning of the design, the opinions from the experts related to architecture and welfare for the disable and from local residents were collected and reflected in the design.”

In addition, it was created as a space for customized services and acquired the preliminary certification of 'Barrier-Free Living Environment (BF)’.

Lee Jung hun (Gangdong-gu mayor) said, "Gangdong-gu, where people with disabilities are happy, will be Gangdong-gu where all residents are happy."
