Subject Dong headmen going out as Christmas Santa in Godeok 1-dong, Gangdong-gu

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung hun) held a special Christmas event on the 23rd of December for the warm end of the year for the underprivileged in Godeok 1-dong.

It is the end of the year, but as the economy becomes difficult due to the re-spreading of the coronavirus, people who are concerned about lack of food in the welfare blind spot may go hungry, so welfare Dong headmen are going out on the streets as a Santa for the underprivileged neighbors by supporting the with warm food.

In this Christmas event, which was held as part of the ‘Whole Neighborhood Sharing Project’, the ‘Smart Caring Volunteer Group’ made up of welfare Dong headmen became Christmas Santas and delivered Korean side dish meals to neighbors in need. The 'Whole Neighborhood Sharing Project' started in June with the voluntary participation of local residents (the ‘Smart Caring Volunteer Group'), and is a project meant to create a welfare community in Godeok 1-dong, which delivers homemade side dishes to 70 households every month and checks their well-being.

In about 7 months since the start of the project, a total of 678 residents, including single-person households concerned about lack of food, received hope by sharing side dishes, and continued receiving with 11 million won in donations and 30 million won worth of donations from residents and organizations.

Joo Young-seok, Mayor of Godeok 1st Township, said, “Although the end of the year is expected to be difficult due to the re-spread of the COVID-19, we have prepared a sharing event for the vulnerable so that no residents are left behind on Christmas. We will do our best to build a tighter safety net.”
