Subject Be happy in the middle age and be stable in the old age

Gangdong-gu, Seoul, will support the lives of elderly residents in the second half of their lives. Gangdong-gu announced on the 12th that it has opened the Gangdong 50 Plus Center with a long-term goal of "happy middle-aged life, stable preparation for old age."

Gangdong 50 Plus Center, which is nestled in Cheonho-dong, has a total floor area of 2,783 square meters and runs from the second basement floor to the sixth floor above the ground. It was the 11th autonomous district in Seoul and is the largest. It is located a 3-minute walk from Amsa Station on Subway Line 8 and is also accessible on foot from Cheonho Station, where Lines 5 and 8 intersect.

On the first basement floor, there is a large auditorium where lectures and performances are available and a multipurpose room for various arts and sports activities. On the first floor, there is a counseling center where you can receive professional counseling by field. Residents who have prepared for the second act of their lives at the 50 Plus Center recommend education suitable for their peers, seniors, and juniors' interests or help them explore new life paths through talent donations.

The senior cafe, where senior baristas work, is a complex space for comfortable rest and meeting. It is the fourth cafe organized by Gangdong-gu to create jobs for the elderly. On the second floor, there is a studio where video production is possible and a computer room where information education can be received and practiced. You can meet in the lecture room on the 4th floor where you can take various courses from leisure to employment.

There is also a separate space for middle-aged and elderly people to start their own businesses or creative activities. Along with the shared office, a community space for small groups was created on the 5th floor. Open spaces are arranged on each floor so that anyone can easily use them.

Gangdong-gu operates the 50 Plus Center directly instead of entrusting it to the private sector in order to consistently promote policies for the elderly. An official from the district explained, "At a time when the average life expectancy is increasing, securing the publicity of policies for the elderly is an urgent task above all else."

In the 50 Plus Center building, there are also iPlus Kiwoom Center and Village Media Support Center. It is a space that supports after-school activities and care for first to sixth graders of elementary school and helps local residents experience media fields such as radio YouTube and even produce broadcasts themselves.

Gangdong-gu began operating the 50 Plus Center last month before its official opening. More than 30 courses are underway, including the "Gangdong Pumasi" activity group, which utilizes local characteristics and writing an autobiography for 50 Plus. It is already establishing itself as a complex cultural space for the middle-aged, with all courses closing at the same time as recruitment. Lee Jung-hoon, head of Gangdong-gu District Office, said, "We will spare no support for the second half of the 50 Plus generation's heart-throbbing life," adding, "We will actively develop various processes that suit the residents' level."
