Subject Gangdong-gu, newly installed/relocated artificial intelligence (AI) circular resource recovery robot (nephron).

Gangdong-gu announced that it is operating a new and relocated artificial intelligence circulating resource recovery robot (Nephron) to establish an intelligent recycling collection system and improve the virtuous cycle of resources. To improve awareness of the virtuous cycle of resources, the Gangdong district installed two nephrons at E-Mart's Myeongil branch, with many floating populations. In addition, the community relocated and installed nephrons near the Seongan Annex building of Gangdong-gu Office and the ticket office of Amsa Relics in response to complaints from residents that it was difficult to access the nephrons already installed in the management wing of Samteo Park and Amsa-dong.
The artificial intelligence circulating resource recovery robot (Nephron) is a vending machine with artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology that automatically sorts and compresses, and collects cans and plastic bottles by an artificial intelligence sensor when a can or plastic bottle is placed in the slot. It is a resource recycling robot. As a reward for collection, points of 10 won per can or plastic bottle are accumulated, and when more than 2,000 points are accumulated, they can be transferred to a personal account through the SuperBean website or the SuperBean app (application) and used as cash. As of November 2021, the cumulative number of users reached 8,700, and the accumulated points exceeded 8.68 million points. More than 1 million cans and PET bottles were recycled, contributing to a virtuous cycle of resources. Gangdong-gu mayor Lee Jung hun said,“We expect more residents to use the nephron by relocating and installing additional nephrons for the convenience of residents."
