Subject | Reviewing the candidates for "Gangdong-gu Garbage Incineration Plant"...Residents' strong opposition. | ||
Local residents are protesting as Godeok and Gangil districts in Gangdong-gu have been reviewed as candidates for the location of Seoul's wide-area resource recovery facility (waste incinerator). Residents of Gangdong-gu are fiercely opposed to the establishment of a garbage incinerator at a time when a resource circulation center (food treatment facility) has already been established. On the other hand, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is in the process of discussing the location selection committee of the garbage incinerator, and nothing has been decided yet. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Metropolitan Council, and autonomous districts on the 17th, the Garbage Incineration Plant Location Selection Committee is considering Godeok and Gangil districts in Gangdong-gu as one of the candidates for the location of the Garbage Incineration Plant. The location selection committee is conducting research services in a total of 18 areas as candidate sites for garbage incineration sites, of which one area included Godeok and Gangil districts in Gangdong-gu. Park Won-seo, a member of Gangdong-gu Council, who has the area as a district, said, "The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to install an additional wide-area waste incinerator in the Godeok district and is conducting a candidate site selection service. I know that the candidate site will be announced on November 5th, he said. "Why should residents' avoidance facilities be concentrated in Gangdong-gu, and Gangdong-gu is not a special zone for avoidance facilities." He said, "The Godeok and Gangil areas are absolutely opposed to the location of the garbage incinerator being promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. "I hope words won't come out as candidates," he said. Earlier, the city said it is considering location candidates to build a wide-area garbage incineration plant that can dispose of more than 1,000 tons of waste a day. Currently, four metropolitan garbage incinerators are in operation, but the facility alone is not enough to dispose of Seoul's waste, so further construction procedures are underway. Residents of Gangdong-gu are also fiercely opposed to being mentioned as candidates for garbage incineration sites. On the website of "Democratic Seoul" in Seoul, an article saying, "Please withdraw the review of the Gangdong-gu waste incineration plant (resource recovery facility)" was posted, and 1,350 citizens agreed over the past three days until the 15th. A citizen who wrote the article said, "Gangdong-gu is already planning to dispose of a total of 700 tons of waste, including food treatment, drinking water treatment, and recycling screening by Gangdong-gu and seven other local governments." However, it is obviously unreasonable to put another 1,000-ton incinerator right next to the 700-ton garbage dump, he said. He said, "From the perspective of Gangdong-gu residents, there is no choice but to suspect that the Seoul Metropolitan Government has reassured residents with the expansion of the Resource Circulation Center in Gangdong-gu from the beginning and considered installing an incinerator in connection with it at the same time. In addition, when the plan for the Resource Circulation Center was announced, there was no explanation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government about the review and installation of facilities linked to it, he said. |
