Subject 2022 living wage set at 10,760 won per hour for Gangdong-gu

Gangdong-gu, Seoul, has decided on a living wage of 10,760 won per hour in 2022, and about nine hundred low-income workers in the public sector are expected to benefit from such decision. The confirmed living wage will be applied from the start of January next year.

This is an increase of 0.6% (60 won) from this year, which is 17.5% higher than next year's minimum wage of 9,160 won. If one works 209 legal working hours, one will be receiving 2,248,840 won per month based on ordinary wages.

The district introduced the "living wage" to ensure that workers living in the district are guaranteed housing, education, and cultural life with their families, and the wage is decided every year with the consideration of inflation, housing expenses, household expenditures, and private education expenses.

In particular, the 2022 living wage decided on the extent of the increase in consideration of difficult economic conditions caused by COVID-19, the gap with the minimum wage, and the inflation rate.

Items included in living wages are ordinary wages such as basic wages, transportation expenses, meals, and fixed allowances, but non-fixed allowances are not included in living wages.

Subject of application are 875 workers belonging to the district office and Gangdong-gu investment, contributing institutions that are not subject to the remuneration system for public officials, and workers belonging to private consignment, services, and construction companies.
