Subject The Yellow Talk: a Child Abuse Prevention Report Box

Gangdong-gu announced on the 14th that it held a delivery ceremony for the Yellow Talk, a child abuse prevention report box produced in collaboration with the private sector. Yellow Talk is a combination of yellow, which symbolizes safety, and the English word "talk." It was designed to allow anyone suspected of child abuse to easily report by installing a report box at the front or back of an elementary school. An official from Gangdong-gu explained, "The purpose is to act as a communication channel that preemptively responds to child abuse before it occurs and links services and resources necessary for children and families."

It is difficult for young children to reveal the abuse room without reports around them. Considering this, a demand survey for reporting boxes was conducted on elementary schools with excellent accessibility to residents. Ten schools, including Hansan Elementary School in Dunchon-dong, Kangil Elementary School in Gangil-dong, and Myeongil Elementary School in Amsa-dong, expressed their intention to participate.

Gangdong-gu collected on-site opinions on the design of the installation site and the report box through prior consultation with each school. Private companies completed the reporting box through design talent donation.

When Yellow Talk is installed in each school, the Child Abuse Prevention Residents Support Group checks reports more than twice a month and delivers them to the Gangdong-gu Child Protection Team. The district plans to classify counseling cases and abuse screening cases according to the contents to link local resources or take child protection measures along with abuse investigations.

Gangdong-gu expects this to contribute to discovering crisis households and resolving blind spots. It is very important to prevent child abuse through close observation within the community, said Lee Jung hun, mayor of Gangdong-gu District Office. "We will establish and jointly respond to related organizations so that we can detect child abuse early and link community resources."
