Subject | Gangdong Practices 'ESG administration' to Reuse Ice Packs | ||
Gangdong-gu District (Mayor Lee Jung hun) is carrying out sustainable ESG (environmental, social, and governance) administration in collaboration with small businesses to revitalize the reuse of ice packs. Previously, Gangdong-gu has been leading the recycling of plastic and resources by promoting the nation's first public-private (small business) cooperative ice pack reuse campaign in 2019. So far, it has reduced 130 tons of waste and 70 tons of greenhouse gas. It has gained great popularity by collaborating with many companies and small business owners such as Lush Korea, Seoul Startup Hub Center, E-Mart Myeongil Branch, Gangdong GS Retail, Traditional Market, and Food Companies, and has provided 185,000 free ice packs to small business owners. In addition, in order to solve problems such as hygiene, specifications, and specific trade-offs caused by the reuse of ice packs, civic groups select a medium size (15×20 cm), clean, disinfect, package, and provide free support to small business owners. The Seoul Gangdong Regional Self-help Center was established in 2001 and provides intensive and systematic self-help support services to low-income people who are capable of working in Gangdong-gu. The center launched the Dream Dream Project (Im Processing 1st store) in November 2019, providing jobs to low-income people aged 50 to 64 who are difficult to enter the general labor market. As the number of participants in the forestry project steadily increases from an average of nine per month at the time of the project's start to an average of 25 per month as of 2021, the Sarang Dream Project (the second store for forestry) will be launched. The Sarang Dream Project (the second branch of the Im processing project) is a project to provide 24 self-help participants with folding shopping bags per month at a business located in Cheonjung-ro 11-gil, Gangdong-gu. By providing jobs that can be participated by any low-income resident with weak working skills, it creates jobs while promoting participants' willingness to work and supporting the foundation for self-support through joint work on folding shopping bags. In addition, all the proceeds generated from the operation of the new project will be used as Tomorrow's fundraising and self-reliance incentives for self-reliance participants. "We are happy to provide jobs to residents who need self-help work," said mayor Lee Jung hun. "We will do our best to encourage more people to work and develop self-reliance through self-help projects." |
