Subject Maintenance on every on-the-road parking lot within the school-zone of jurisdiction upcoming October 1st

Gangdong-gu has decided to do maintenance on every on-the-road parking lot within the school-zone of jurisdiction upcoming October 1st, according to the revision of the PARKING LOT ACT and ROAD TRAFFIC ACT.

Due to the recent rise in child car accident awareness, parents' continuous suggestions on the pedestrian environment on school routes have resulted in a revision on PARKING LOT ACT article 7 and ROAD TRAFFIC ACT article 32.

The key contents of the revised law are a total ban on stopping and parking in the school zone, and the abolition of on-road parking lots within those areas. As a result, all on-the-road parking lots in Gangdong-gu's school zone will soon be abolished.

The maintenance target goal of the on-the-road parking lot in the Gangdong-gu Children's Protection Zone is 288 parking lots in 15 protected areas. Concerned parking areas will be under maintenance starting from upcoming October 1st.

To solve the parking difficulties that are projected to occur by the abolition of on-the-road parking lots, the district plans to work actively to minimize inconvenience to residents by expanding small parking lots in residential areas, revitalizing shared parking, and supporting the fence demolition.

mayor Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu District Office has stated: “We hope that the pedestrian environment of children in the jurisdiction will be greatly improved through the maintenance of the on-the-road parking lot in the school zone.” and also added that: “The district will do its very best to resupply reduced parking spaces that occurred due to the abolition of on-road parking lots.”
