Subject Gangdong-gu announces the 'Guidelines for the Protection of Emotional Workers’ Rights in Gangdong-gu'

Gangdong-gu announced on the 24th of August that they have published the 'Guidelines for the Protection of Emotional Workers’ Rights in Gangdong-gu' in order to foster a healthy and safe working environment for emotional workers.

The 'Guideline for the Protection of Emotional Workers' Rights in Gangdong-gu' contains detailed information about the protection of emotional workers' rights, such as a customer response manual, a worker protection system, and creation of an environment for recovery from damage, along with the employer's obligation to protect emotional workers from verbal abuse and assault by customers.

This booklet will be distributed to the ward office, dong community center, and 105 ward-affiliated organizations. The guideline will also be able to be downloaded from the Gandong-gu homepage if needed.

Ever since the enactment of the ‘Gangdong-gu Ordinance on the Protection of the Rights of Emotional Workers’ in 2019, Gangdong-gu has formed and is operating the Emotional Workers' Rights Guarantee Committee, which consists of experts in the field of labor and counseling. In addition, Gangdong-gu is taking the lead in protecting the rights and interests of emotional workers through campaigns to protect the rights of emotional workers, surveys on emotional workers in the public sector, and the distribution of guidelines to protect emotional workers.

This year, Gandong-gu established the 'Plan for the protection of emotional workers in Gangdong-gu and the creation of a healthy labor culture' to improve the working environment of daycare teachers and social welfare facility workers, provide legal and psychological counseling for damage recovery, and campaigns to spread awareness of emotional labor. They are working hard to create a healthy city where emotional workers are respected.

Lee Jung hun, the mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "We will spare no effort to provide support so that emotional workers who control their emotions to deal with customers can be protected from emotional labor damage and work in a better environment."
