Subject | Gangdong-gu is Creating ‘The Street of Beautiful Signboard’ | ||
Gangdong-gu is planning to create ‘The Street of Beautiful Signboard’ in Cheonho-dong and Seongnae-dong. This is a plan to improve the city’s appearance by getting rid of disorderly built ads and installing unique signboards. Road of Gangdong Community Center and 천호옛길 will be involved and the expense is about 300 million won. Each store will receive 2.5 million won for new signboard. Gangdong-gu organized a residents’ committee which consists of store owners, mall committee and related associations to collect the local people’s ideas from designing to deciding which company to work with. 131 sign boards are going to be replaced with eco-friendly LED signboards that are designed not only to show each store’s unique style, but also to be in harmony with the surrounding environments. Gangdong-gu is setting a plan of opening a resident presentation in July, asking for agreement of store owners, and deciding the final design to complete the project by the end of September. It seems that this project will help the economic growth of local business as well as the outfit of the city. Officers clarified that “When the project is completed, the state of the city will be improved.” and “We will reflect the owners’ opinions as much as we can since this project requires their cooperation.” Starting with Cheonho 문구거리 signboards improvement project in 2008, Gangdong-gu has replaced 906 signboards into unique LED boards. Especially a sculpture of an octopus installed in Seongnae-dong Octopus Street and specially designed signboards for octopus restaurants have been providing spectacles for visitors. |
